Youth Activities

The Hellgate Mineral Society offers two youth programs that complement each other, and they can be done individually or together.

Activities completed in one program can be counted towards completion in the other program.

4-H Geology
Future Rockhounds of America
  • Sponsored by Missoula County 4-H and Montana State University
  • Open to all youth age 9-19
  • Must be a registered member of 4-H
  • Registration fee is $7
  • Members will be eligible to exhibit at the Western Montana Fair and compete for cash prices and ribbons
  • Members are eligible for state and national competitions, scholarships, 4-H summer camp
  • Youth and adult leaders are covered by insurance through Montana State University
  • Sponsored by the National Federation of Mineralogical Societies
  • Open to youth up to the age of 18
  • Youth must be a registered member of Hellgate Mineral Society
  • Family membership to the Hellgate Mineral Society is $19
  • Members will be eligible to earn 25 different badges, patches and pins
  • Members will be eligible for annual scholarships offered by the Northwest Federation of Mineralogical Societies
